Yaw Dabo has officially dropped his GH¢1 million lawsuit against Oboy Siki after mediation by the Ashanti Regional Minister. Oboy Siki issued a public apology and retracted his viral comments, ending the high-profile Kumawood legal battle.

The high-stakes legal battle that gripped the Kumawood movie industry has come to an abrupt and peaceful conclusion. Kumawood actor and football administrator Yaw Dabo has officially withdrawn his GH¢1 million defamation lawsuit against his colleague, Joseph Nana Osei Kofi, popularly known as Oboy Siki. The decision was reached less than forty-eight hours after the two actors made their initial appearance at the Kumasi High Court on February 23, 2026. The resolution marks the end of a brief but intense dispute that threatened to create a permanent rift within the Ghanaian entertainment fraternity.

The breakthrough in the case came following the direct intervention of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene. Recognizing the potential for the lawsuit to damage the reputation of the local creative arts sector, the Minister invited both parties to a closed-door mediation session at the Regional Coordinating Council. During this meeting, the Minister emphasized the need for unity among industry veterans and the importance of resolving conflicts through dialogue rather than costly and protracted legal battles. Prominent industry figures, including Ras Nene and other Kumawood elders, were also instrumental in pleading for an out-of-court settlement.

During the mediation, Oboy Siki, also known as Dada Santo, reportedly offered an unqualified apology to Yaw Dabo for the disparaging remarks he made in a viral media interview. Oboy Siki admitted that his comments—which touched on Dabo's personal character, his football academy, and his ability to father children—were intended as "social media banter" to generate trends. However, he acknowledged that he had crossed a line and that his remarks were received with genuine pain and professional concern by Dabo. In a video released after the meeting, Oboy Siki publicly retracted all his defamatory statements, stating they were "not true and said out of anger."

Yaw Dabo, on his part, accepted the apology and agreed to discontinue the legal proceedings. While his legal team had initially pushed for the GH¢1 million claim to set a precedent against cyber-bullying and defamation, Dabo noted that his respect for the Regional Minister and the elders who intervened outweighed his desire for financial compensation. "I have accepted his apology because of the respect I have for Dr. Amoakohene and the prominent individuals who reached out to me," Dabo told the media. He emphasized that his primary goal was to protect the integrity of the Dabo Soccer Academy and ensure that his business partners globally do not take such "banter" as fact.

The withdrawal of the suit has been met with relief by many in the Kumawood industry who feared the case would expose more internal "dirty laundry" if it proceeded to trial. It serves as a significant case study in the power of traditional and political mediation within the Ghanaian context. The court has since been notified of the settlement, and the case has been officially struck out. For now, the two actors have pledged to maintain a professional relationship, sending a strong signal to the public that while social media "beefs" are common in the entertainment world, they should never compromise the personal dignity or professional brands of those involved.
