The Ghana Veterinary Medical Students Association (GVMSA) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) recently partnered with the Ashanti Regional Veterinary Services Directorate (VSD) to conduct a free mass rabies vaccination in Ejura-Sekyeredumase Municipality, in the Ashanti Region. The exercise, held under the theme 'Vaccinate a pet; save a human life,' aimed to create awareness and vaccinate pets, especially dogs, to reduce rabies cases in the region.

The GVMSA, in partnership with the Ashanti Regional VSD, has been conducting the vaccination programme for three years, with the goal of completely eradicating rabies from the community. According to Dr. Deborah Agyakomah Yeboah, a Veterinary Doctor at the Ashanti Regional Veterinary Clinic, a continuous vaccination programme for five years is necessary to achieve this goal.

The Ashanti Regional Veterinary Director, Dr. Emmanuel E. Effah, emphasized the dangers of the disease and the need for pets, especially dogs, to be vaccinated. He also urged the public to take the exercise seriously to minimize the growth of rabies in the Municipality.
