The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team of the Ghana Police Service has arrested Nhyira Papa Kojo Egyir Hayford, a 23-year-old student, for the alleged publication and distribution of obscene material online. The arrest, which took place on Friday, March 6, 2026, follows a digital investigation into explicit videos shared via the social media platform Snapchat.
According to official police reports, Hayford is accused of violating Section 280 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), which strictly prohibits the publication of obscene drawings, prints, or any other representations tending to corrupt morals. The police specialized cyber unit flagged the content as part of a broader crackdown on digital indecency and the non-consensual or illegal sharing of explicit imagery.
Hayford is currently in police custody assisting with further investigations. Authorities have used this high-profile arrest to issue a stern warning to social media users, particularly the youth, about the legal consequences of creating or sharing sexually explicit content across digital platforms. The suspect is expected to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction as the police conclude their forensic examination of his mobile devices.
