The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yarkor Donkor, has officially intervened in the recent wave of campus violence within the Central Region. During a high-stakes visit to the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS), the CID boss issued a firm 24-hour ultimatum to the school’s administration to identify and hand over all students involved in a recent violent clash.
The incident in question occurred during the district athletics competition in Agona Swedru on February 19, 2026. Viral video footage showed a student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School being cornered, pelted with stones, and struck with sticks by a mob. While three suspects have already been picked up by the police, several others seen clearly in the footage remain at large.
"We will not allow our educational institutions to become breeding grounds for criminals," COP Donkor stated. The ultimatum serves as a final warning to the school authorities: if the suspects are not produced within the window, the police will launch a direct "sweep operation" on the campus to effect the arrests.
This move follows the indefinite suspension of all inter-school sporting activities in the Central Region by the Ghana Education Service (GES). Authorities are now under pressure to prove that they can maintain discipline and protect student-athletes. The victim of the assault has since been discharged from the hospital, but the state is determined to pursue criminal charges to serve as a deterrent to others.
