Social media influencer "Duabo King" has been arrested and remanded for two weeks after accusing officers at the Kumasi Central Police Station of corruption and spiritual attacks. Police say the claims are false news intended to incite the public.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has officially detained a popular social media personality known as "Duabo King" following a series of viral videos containing grave allegations against officers at the Kumasi Central Police Station. The suspect was picked up by plainclothes officers on March 1, 2026, after his live-streamed rants—in which he accused specific high-ranking officers of bribery, spiritual manipulation, and direct involvement in local criminal syndicates—went viral across TikTok and WhatsApp.

Police Official Statment

According to police sources, the arrest was triggered by the "unsubstantiated and inflammatory" nature of the comments, which the Ghana Police Service claims were designed to incite public hatred against the regional headquarters. During the videos, "Duabo King" allegedly used derogatory language and "cursed" (duabo) the officers, claiming he had evidence that they had compromised several high-profile robbery investigations in the Kejetia and Adum enclaves. The police have clarified that while they respect freedom of speech, the deliberate spread of misinformation that threatens the security of a major police installation is a criminal offense under the Electronic Communications Act.

The suspect was arraigned before a Kumasi Circuit Court this morning, March 2, where he was charged with the publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace. His legal team argued for bail, stating that their client was merely exercising his right to hold public officials accountable. However, the prosecution successfully argued that the suspect posed a flight risk and that his release could lead to further social media incitement while the investigation into the "source" of his alleged evidence continues.

The presiding judge has remanded "Duabo King" into police custody for two weeks to allow for a full forensic audit of the digital devices seized during his arrest. This incident has reignited a heated national debate regarding the limits of social media activism in Ghana. While some supporters of the TikToker argue that the police are using "heavy-handed" tactics to silence critics, the Ghana Police Service maintains that professional integrity must be protected from baseless online attacks. The case is set to resume on March 16, 2026, as the Command warns other social media users to verify their information before making accusations that could lead to criminal prosecution.
