The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has set a strict March 20 deadline for tertiary students to complete their biometric validation for the 2026 'No-Fee-Stress' initiative. Over 220,000 students are expected to benefit, provided they verify their data with a Ghana Card.

The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has issued a final ultimatum to all tertiary students seeking to benefit from the government's highly anticipated "No-Fee-Stress" initiative for the 2026 academic year. Management has announced that the portal for biometric validation and data upload will officially close at midnight on Friday, March 20, 2026. Students who fail to complete the process by this deadline risk missing out on the financial lifeline entirely.

The "No-Fee-Stress" policy, heavily featured in President John Dramani Mahama’s recent State of the Nation Address (SONA), is designed to absorb the upfront payment of academic facility user fees for eligible students. With the program projected to support over 220,000 learners this year—including, for the first time, law students—the SLTF portal has experienced unprecedented traffic since it opened in late February.

In a press release issued on Tuesday morning, SLTF CEO Nana Kwaku Agyei urged applicants not to wait until the eleventh hour. "We have noticed that thousands of students have initiated the application but have not completed their biometric validation via the Ghana Card," he stated. "Without this final verification step, the funds cannot be disbursed directly to the universities to clear the students' arrears."

To facilitate the rush, the SLTF has deployed mobile validation units to major university campuses, including the University of Ghana, KNUST, and UCC. Furthermore, applicants are reminded that guarantors are no longer required, a major policy shift intended to remove the biggest bottleneck in the application process. All that is needed is a valid Ghana Card and a synchronized SSNIT number.

Student Representative Councils (SRCs) across the country have triggered massive awareness campaigns on their respective campuses, setting up help desks to assist freshmen with the digital upload process. With the clock ticking, students are advised to visit the official SLTF website immediately to secure their spot in the 2026 funding cycle.
