Six Aggrey Memorial students are in police custody following a violent robbery at Pedu Junction. A final-year Adisadel College student was left with a fractured eye socket and robbed of his iPhone 17 Pro Max in an attack that has shocked Cape Coast.

The Central Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of six students from Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in connection with a brutal assault and robbery directed at a final-year student of Adisadel College. The incident, which has reignited conversations regarding student safety and inter-school rivalries, occurred on the afternoon of Friday, February 20, 2026. The victim, identified as Rexford Owusu-Ansah, was targeted at the busy Pedu Junction while returning to campus following the conclusion of a regional inter-colleges sports festival held at the Cape Coast Stadium.

According to official police briefings, the confrontation began when the suspects, all juveniles aged between 16 and 17, intercepted Owusu-Ansah and two of his companions. The attackers reportedly demanded to know if the group attended Adisadel College before launching a coordinated physical assault. While the victim's two friends managed to flee the scene to seek help, Owusu-Ansah was overpowered by the group. He was subjected to a severe beating, including being kicked repeatedly while on the ground. During the struggle, the suspects allegedly robbed him of an iPhone 17 Pro Max, a pair of shoes, and cash amounting to approximately GH¢1,400.

The severity of the attack left the victim with significant physical trauma. Medical reports from the Cape Coast Regional Hospital, where he was referred after initial treatment at the stadium clinic, indicate that he sustained a fractured bone around his right eye. The injury was severe enough to prevent him from opening the eye, leading to concerns regarding long-term damage to his vision. After undergoing intensive medical observation, the student was officially discharged on Sunday, February 22, though he remains under outpatient care and psychological monitoring.

The management of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School acted swiftly once the identities of the involved students were established. On the evening of the attack, school authorities handed over all six suspects to the Kotokuraba Police Station to assist with ongoing criminal investigations. The Central Regional Police Command, led by ASP Patrick Bentum, issued a stern condemnation of the act, describing it as an unacceptable breach of public order. The police have assured the public that the suspects are being processed in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act and will face the full rigors of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.

This violent episode has cast a shadow over the recently concluded sports festival, which is traditionally a period of healthy competition and camaraderie among schools in the Central Region. Parents and alumni associations have expressed deep concern over the rising trend of targeted violence at transit points like Pedu Junction. The Ghana Education Service is expected to meet with the heads of both institutions to discuss further disciplinary measures and to reinforce security protocols during high-traffic student events. For now, the focus remains on the judicial process and the recovery of the victim as the community calls for an end to school-based hooliganism.
