Parents of the six Aggrey Memorial students arrested for assaulting an Adisadel College student are demanding an apology from the police. They allege excessive force and mistaken identity, threatening to petition the IGP if charges aren't dropped.

The fallout from the recent inter-school violence in Cape Coast has taken a new turn, with the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) of Aggrey Memorial Zion Senior High School openly condemning the Central Regional Police Command. The controversy centers on the arrest of six Aggrey Memorial students who were picked up last week for their alleged involvement in the brutal assault of an Adisadel College student during a sporting event.

In a press conference held on Monday, March 9, 2026, representatives of the parents argued that the police used excessive force and bypassed the school's internal disciplinary structures. According to the parents, plainclothes officers entered the school premises and "manhandled" the minors without the presence of the headmaster or legal guardians. They claim that two of the arrested boys were not even at the sports stadium during the time of the altercation, suggesting a case of mistaken identity driven by public pressure to make quick arrests.

"We do not condone violence, and our prayers are with the injured Adisadel student, but the police cannot treat high school students like hardened criminals," a spokesperson for the parents stated. The group is demanding an immediate, unconditional apology from the Central Regional Police Commander and has threatened to petition the Inspector General of Police (IGP) if the charges against the "wrongfully accused" students are not dropped within 48 hours.

The Ghana Education Service (GES), which had earlier threatened severe sanctions against the culprits, is now caught in the middle of the escalating feud. The GES Regional Directorate has appealed for calm, assuring parents that a joint investigative committee has been formed to review both the initial assault and the subsequent police arrests.

Meanwhile, the six students have been granted police enquiry bail but remain suspended from academic activities pending the final report. Security remains tight around both Aggrey Memorial and Adisadel College campuses, as authorities try to prevent any retaliatory attacks from the student bodies.
