The School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) of the University of Cape Coast has been at the forefront of producing top-notch healthcare professionals in Ghana. The institution recently held its Dean’s Awards Ceremony to honour 37 outstanding students who have excelled academically.
The ceremony, which was held under the theme, “Rewarding Excellence, Shaping the Future of Healthcare in Ghana,” was a testament to the institution’s commitment to recognising and rewarding academic excellence.
Award Recipients Celebrated
The awardees, drawn from Levels 200 to 400, received certificates and cash prizes in recognition of their academic excellence. The beneficiaries included students from the School’s satellite campuses at Dominase and Nyakrom.
The Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Desmond Omane Acheampong, praised the students for their outstanding performance, noting that the awards were instituted to recognise academic excellence and motivate students to aim higher.
Prof. Acheampong also commended lecturers across the various campuses for their commitment to training future healthcare professionals.
Keynote Address Highlights Importance of Discipline and Perseverance
Delivering the keynote address, the General Secretary of the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers Union (MELPWU), Dr. Cephas Kofi Akortor, described the awards as an important milestone in the academic journey of the recipients.
Dr. Akortor urged the students to carry their achievements with humility and remain focused on sustaining their success, stressing that excellence does not happen by chance, but is built through discipline, integrity, perseverance, and continuous improvement.
He also encouraged students to embrace honesty, compassion, and professionalism, noting that healthcare workers are not only practitioners but also healers entrusted with improving lives.
Looking Ahead
The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Samuel Kyei, who represented the Provost of the College. He advised the award winners not to see the recognition as the peak of their achievements, but as motivation to pursue even greater goals.
He stressed that excellence is a continuous journey that requires dedication, discipline, and consistency.
