Early on Saturday morning, a fuel tanker travelling along the Nsawam–Accra highway lost control, leading to a massive explosion that engulfed several vehicles nearby. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with thick black smoke filling the sky and flames spreading quickly across the highway.
Emergency teams, including the Ghana National Fire Service and local medical responders, rushed to the scene. Six people were confirmed dead at the site, while seven others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for intensive care. Authorities are working to stabilise the critically injured and provide support to families affected by the tragedy.
Traffic on the major highway was immediately blocked, creating long delays as responders fought to control the fire and clear debris. The incident has raised serious concerns about tanker safety, highway conditions, and emergency response preparedness in high-risk areas.
