MTN Group President and CEO, Ralph Mupita, has concluded a strategic visit to Ghana with a landmark announcement for the country’s telecommunications sector. The company is set to invest US$1.1 billion over the next three years to upgrade its infrastructure, a significant increase from its previous investment cycles.
A central pillar of this "Ambition 2025" strategy is the rapid rollout of network sites. MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett confirmed that the company aims to build 500 new sites in 2026 alone. This follows a year where only 50 sites were constructed, representing a ten-fold increase in the pace of expansion.
The investment is a direct response to growing consumer frustration over call drops and slow data speeds during peak hours. By densifying the network, MTN hopes to stay ahead of the massive surge in data consumption driven by Ghana’s growing digital economy. The project is expected to create hundreds of technical jobs and provide better connectivity to underserved rural areas, further solidifying MTN's position as the market leader in the region.
